Include LCVEF in Your Will or Estate Plans

The climate crisis is the existential threat of our time, and we must leave the planet better for those we care about most. A planned gift through your estate is one of the smartest ways to support LCV Education Fund’s work for decades to come.

A Gift in Your Will or Trust

A gift through your will or living trust, also known as a bequest, can support LCV Education Fund’s long-term work to protect the environment for future generations. In consultation with a legal and/or financial advisor, you can name LCV Education Fund to receive a specific amount or percentage of your estate, or you can name LCV Education Fund as a contingent beneficiary to be next in line after loved ones. You can find sample legal language and more information about how to finalize a bequest below. Read more in our free guide (PDF).

Get Started With These Resources:

  • Sample legal language and our Tax ID number

To leave a gift for the environment in your will or trust, please use the following language:

“I hereby give and bequeath $__, or __ percent of the residue of my estate to The League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, a District of Columbia nonprofit corporation exempt from Federal taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, 740 15th St NW Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005, Federal tax ID number 52-1379661.”

  • Beneficiary designations

One of the simplest ways to leave a gift beyond your lifetime is to fill out a short form and sign your name. You can include LCV Education Fund as a beneficiary of retirement accounts, life insurance policies, bank or brokerage accounts, donor-advised funds, and more. Just request a beneficiary designation form from your administrator, fill it out, and return it. Read more in our free guide (PDF).

  • Making a gift directly from your IRA (Qualified Charitable Distribution)

Making a gift directly from your IRA is one the most taxwise and impactful gifts you can make. This can be done through what is known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD is a distribution of funds from your IRA (other than a SEP or SIMPLE IRA) directly to a qualified charitable organization, such as LCV Education Fund. Because the gift goes directly to the charity without passing through your hands, the dollar amount of the gift may be excluded from your taxable income up to a maximum of $100,000 annually, with some exceptions. Please consult your tax advisor for information regarding your specific exceptions.

All you need to provide to your IRA trustee is the following information to make this type of gift:

    Legal Name: LCV Education Fund
    Tax ID Number: 52-1379661
Address: 740 15th St. NW, 7th Floor, Washington, DC  20005

If you need any help making this type of gift, please email us.

  • Making a gift of stocks or securities

Another way you can make a transformational gift is by making a gift of appreciated securities—stocks, bonds. or mutual fund shares—to League of Conservation Voters Education Fund. Donors do not recognize any capital gains income when shares are transferred directly to the LCV Education Fund.

Please fill out this form and email it to Rowel Leung.

“LCV Education Fund combines conservation on a large scale and grassroots power to make change at the local level as the most powerful means of making progress. I’ve chosen to show my gratitude for LCV Education Fund’s work with a gift through my estate. I’m happy that I can invest in the future for my grandkids and others.”
